yes, most banks and big department stores still accept traveller's checks. but this is becoming an obsolete way of bringing cash to the philippines. just bring your masters, visa, american express cards here and you can charge or encash in atms with the cirrus logo.

It is very hard to find travelers checks any more. Just go to the bank and they will give you a travelers card which works the same way as a travelers check, meaning it is as good as cash and it is safe and will be replaced if you lose it. Every place you go to will not accept them, but almost all, and you can ask before you even sit down to be sure it will be accepted. Take some cash along too for small purchases and little emergencies.

Yes, but they can be a hassle at times. However, Visa and Master Card are universally accepted in all areas there. I went there three years ago and enjoyed it so much that I hope to go back some day. There are many sights to see and the people are very friendly and helpful. Best of all, about 95% speak English as well as their native dialect. On the main island of Luzon I suggest you go to Baguio, Banaue, and don't forget the museum of the mountain people in Bontok. Once you leave Luzon don't miss Cebu, Iloilo, Boracay (a tropical island paradise), and Bohol, home of the world's smallest monkey (you can hold it in your hand). You will be surprised how modern these places are. For instance, Iloilo (on Panay) has a huge indoor shopping mall with stores and brands you will recognize as well as those that are made locally. Have fun.

Yes, travellers cheques are accepted in the Philippines. However it is advised you bring US Dollar denominated cheques preferably AmEx. If you are in Manila, all types of denomination are accepted. However if you are in the provinces, banks would only accept US Dollar denominated cheques. To exchange your cheques, do not forget to bring with you your valid passport and the travellers cheque purchase receipt. As mentioned, travellers cheque is becoming obsolete. Most would prefer to use Credit or ATM cards which automatically converts your money to the local currency. By the way, there are bank charges for every cheque exchanged, so with ATM withdrawals. Therefore budget your money to avoid constant travellers cheque exchange or use of ATM.

You can find places that will but it is a pain. You are better off bringing cash and credit cards. Most places where you are at risk for being pick pocketed are places that won't accept travelers checks anyways so you'll have to have some cash.

The word is A C C E P T not E X C E P T. The answer is, YES exchange for pesos at most any bank. A word of caution, don't use the street money changers with their little booth. They are THIEVES and SLIGHT OF HAND experts.

Most major money changes accept Travelers Checks (commonly referred to as TC's). In particular, I know SM Shoemart accepts them.
Also, if you opt to use the traveller's card (a traveller's check in the form of a card, just like a credit card) with a Visa logo, most ATMs will take it.

It's very difficult to find an establishment that accepts traveller's checks, but you can exchange them for Philippine pesos in some banks, and the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank (HSBC) is one of them. Be ready with your passport and at least one other valid ID, though.

Any of the main banks will exchange TC's. Many hotels and big stores will take them in leiu of cash. Smaller places will only take cash.
