Semper fi! First, to make it safe, turn off the caps key. Press once. that was like yelling while out on recce. (Recon, for the feather merchants).

Go get http://pclinuxos.com and download it, burn to CD, reboot.

If you can strip an m1a2 garand in the dark in a muddy foxhole, you can run a computer, Marine!

You are NOT a Moron, you are a government certified and well trained machine! You merely require a bit of added training!

Then, if you fail to achieve the objective, you can call yourself "complete", but, I am NOT leaving you on that cyber battlefield, alone! You hear me?

You come to the forums, read and ask questions, or email me linuxiac2@yahoo.com and YES, there are more than two of us, so we never have to leave the post un-guarded!

Let me know. We do NOT surrender in the middle of a fight!

As another posted expressed, you are a Marine, you do not give up and I know you will not on this simple task. I salute you for your service to our country. Thank you for protecting my freedom. I will also commit to helping you in any way possible. Just contact me anytime. I will respond promptly.

Now for some protection for your computer.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

The above programs will help to protect you from spyware/adaware. You must also have a anti-virus program. There are many free ones out there that are very good. You must also have a good bi-directional firewall. The windows firewall is not enough. It will only monitor incoming traffic. So if a virus or spyware/adaware were to get into your system and try to send information out, the windows firewall will not stop it. A good firewall that is easy to use and works great right out of the box is one from Comodo. www.comodo.com

For one thing most viruses and spyware do not announce that there in your system. You notice the effects like crashes and slow computer speed. You probably just went on a page that loads a java script saying something was about to happen if you didn't click here kind of application. I suggest you load

adaware

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/download_and_buy/product_comparison_chart.php
or

Spybot - there both free and work very well.

if your live one care did not detect any virus/trojan/spyware/malware in your system then i think you are safe now, but if you still suspecting your system that it is not safe you have an option of seeking a third opinion using online virus scan (installing another antivirus program in your system is no recommended), (major antivirus software offer online scan) or to reformat your hard drive and reinstall your OS.

get the free version of AVG from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ (anti-virus)
also download ad-ware for free at http://www.noadware.net/?hop=1site
run them both on a regular basis and you should be fine.
