Last month I attended my annual training session

that's required for maintaining my state prison

security clearance.

During the training session there was a presentation

by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic,

Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of

their belief systems.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam

had to say.

The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of

Islam, complete with a video. After the presentations,

time was provided for questions and answers.

When it was my turn, I directed my question to the

Imam and asked:

"Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand

that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a

holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the

world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a

command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in

heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the

definition of an infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and,

without hesitation, he replied, "Non-believers!"

I responded,

"So, let me make sure I have this straight. All

followers of Allah have been commanded to kill

everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to

Heaven. Is that correct?"

The _____expression on his face changed from one of

authority and command to that of a little boy who had

just gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

He sheepishly replied, "Yes"

This is a well known urban myth circulated around the internet by extremist Christians

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_allah_or_jesus.htm

The above text, circulating via email since September 2003, was written by Rick Mathes, executive director of Mission Gate Prison Ministry in Chesterfield, Missouri. In subsequent statements on the ministry's Website, Mathes affirmed that the incident took place exactly as described.

However, a different version of events was reported in an article by Greg Kearney of the Lee News Service, in which a spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Corrections, which sponsored the training session, stated that the "imam" Mathes refers to above was a prison inmate and ordinary Muslim, not a trained cleric, and that although the inmate did answer various questions about his faith to the best of his ability, the issues of jihad and violence against non-believers were neither raised nor discussed during the exchange.

It is therefore a case of Mathes' word against the prison official's. I have not been able to find public statements by anyone else in a position to confirm the facts.

You obviously believe people are too stupid to know this

The answer is No. The Imam did not have the knowledge or misunderstood your question. We have not been commanded to kill Non believers. However during a holy war if a muslim dies he is guarantied a position in heavens. Now holy war here means a war between a muslim land and that of a non believer. However this Holy war is to be used only if there is no choice eg; Tryed convincing the enemy not to wage war on the muslim land. Holy war also means the struggle for God (as in you strive to please God by honesty, devotion to God by prayers, Wisdom etc) This is what i mean by confusion in this era. The best way is for you to actually read the Holy Quran and see how you understand it. Dont stop at what someone tells you cause its not always the truth.

Muslims are not told to kill infidels. Holy wars only happens when Muslims are being confronted physically by non-believers. If in that war they kill infidels, they don't get sins. If Muslims are killed during that war, they will go straight to heaven without being judged.

That Imam your talking with might not have adequate knowledge to spread Islam.

With all due respect, thins question is a silly charade, you're either making this up, or the Imam doesn't know jack.

consider this:

[10.99] And if your Lord had pleased, surely all those who are in the earth would have believed, all of them; will you then force men till they become believers?

[2.256] There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error;

[60.8] Allah does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely Allah loves the doers of justice.

Holly war was meant to be fight inside any single believer and must be fight inside itself. It is a fight against anger, lust, etc....
Some Muslims made up, for their own sake, that this holly war should be against non believer.
You see we are so bound to go to the outer world that this is happening all the time to us. It is not meant to convert other, to preach to other, etc... It is meant to figt with weaknesses inside ourselves.
In your case I wold like to say that we see and believe what we want to se and believe.
And not, I am not a Muslim at all.
