Programs like auto cad are quicker for most people to use rather than hand drawing and rendering plans, etc and are much easier and quicker to amend then a hand drawing if any changes are required. Technology has also provided many new materials over the years, the industrial revolution and steel is a period that immediately comes to mind, as is the twisted organic wrought iron designs of the art nouveau period.

It also affects the design in that we now need to cater for other new technology. In residential projects many new houses now have home cinemas set up etc and the architectural needs of commercial development changes in line with their technological needs.

Well this is quite easy really see architecturally technology has made it much easier to design, test, and even build houses easier and faster. For instance take the giant pyramids or Egypt not a single stone could be off or else the thing would topple and be completely off kilter. However they managed to use some form of geometry to figure it out eras before their time. a couple decades ago we we using computers... the start of computer technology changed us cause then we can see if something on paper will actually work in a 3-d scale however they still built models for purposes such as testing but now we can even do that on computers (though they always like to make sure with the real life models) so that's it in a verrrrrrrry small nutshell from papyrus and quill to silicon and linen paper with sprayed ink
