I am NOT a rocket scientist BUT I believe that being homosexual is NOT a choice. YOU ARE or you are NOT. If you are it is something you are born with. As in being a homosexual.

If homosexuality were a choice, I wouldn't choose it, just because of what I've been through in my life and how it has affected me afterwards. But it isn't a choice so whether we like it or not, we have to live with it.

Yeah but what about all the perks and benefits of the lifestyle? Seriously though you are exactly right nobody would choose to be discriminated against and ostrocized from their families. The belief among those, of a religious bent, who believe that your sexual orientation is a a matter of choice see homosexuality as a sin and therefore believe you have a choice in the matter. Of course this also promotes a hatred of people who are homosexuals because they have given in to sin and even worse they are tempting others, like themselves, into their sinful ways. Many feel a need to convert you as a way of controlling their own sinful urges. So they find themsleves caught in a sort of trap, they must believe that it is a choice or disagree with it being a sin and therefore wrong. Those who seem unable to think beyond what someone has told them go with it being a sin and since it is a sin they can be mean, nasty and hateful to you because they are actually trying to help you.

look in the mirror and see stupid; as being gay is GEN-NET-TIC, get it through your thick skull and into what passes for your brain, being gay is the same as you having an eye color or hair color from a grandparent or great grandparent, and you really need to open your heart AND MIND to this possibility and do everybody a favor and do some research before you ask any more brainless questions on here as I am a straight woman who a few years ago didn't like gays either until I got to know one, so try getting to know one and grow up!

Another question is: Why does it matter if it's a choice or not? It does no harm, it's not "evil". Really, the 'choice' debate is a pointless one.

I don't think it's a choice, but the homosexual person has the choice to live this lifestyle or not. They have an inborn desire to go with the opposite sex, just as I have the inborn desire toward addiction. I cannot act on it though, because I do not want to be an addict and because I have a family and kids to be a role model to as well as following God's commands. I really don't believe, that there is a internal force that makes a person live out the homosexual lifestyle. As a teenager I sometimes wondered what it would be like to make out with another girl. That's as far as I went. Just wondered. I had the choice to actually go through with it and decided not to.

Nobody would ever choose to be rejected by society, disowned by their family, forced to move from their home town, beat up for no reason, ridiculed by strangers. Gays were born that way, God made them that way, and He loves them as much as anyone else. There are "straight" people who use sex to manipulate others, for their own selfish desires, and in violence. If anyone is doing wrong, it is those people. Also the folks who judge gays are doing wrong- it is not our place to judge other human beings, as we can never know why another person says or does the things they say and do. Also, it is always the so-called straight people who molest kids- many hide behind religion in order to do it. One of my best friends is a gay guy, and he is one of the kindest, gentlest people I know, and would not hurt a fly. It hurts me to see others hurt him, he does not deserve it.
