surgery which didn't work. I took her to the Orthopedic Doctor because she was in pain to see if he could help. He mentioned to her that any more surgery for my ailing Mom whom is 83 probably wouldn't work. He also mentioned in her frail condidtion he told her she probably shouldnt live alone. She said I"M NOT MOVING and I want to LIVE ALONE. (no question about it her comments. Her Mind is very much in tack and I offered her to move in with me. She said absolutly not. I like my own home. We own are home 20 miles away near my husbands job. Any suggestions??

Talk to your mom about assited living. She can still live by herself, have all her own stuff, but she will have skilled nurses and doctors to help her if she needs it. If she falls, there is a call button and she can get help sooner than if she lived in her own home. It would be a really good idea if she has health problems but is still with it in the mind.

Frail. Ailing. Age 83.
Damn, I am sorry. I am glad for you that you are only 20 miles away and not several hours, and that she has you in her life to help her.

She needs to be made to understand that someone in her condition who falls in breaks a hip has about a 50% chance of never seeing the outside of a nursing home again in this lifetime. With her decision to live alone, she is playing with big stakes.

Once she understands what is at stake, if her mind is intact as you say, you will need to respect her wishes. That is a tough place to be, but that's about all you can do.

Make sure that all is being done that could help her with the pain outside of surgery. Depending on her condition, physical therapy may be able to offer her some pain relief. Techniques such as electrical stimulation or deep-heat ultrasound can sometimes be very effective.
