For breakfast, I give my baby an egg yolk with yogurt and pieces of bread. Then formula. Is this safe for everyday nutrition? If not, any suggestion for breakfast??? Thank you.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition compared the nutritional effects of feeding weaning infants six to 12 months of age regular egg yolks, enriched egg yolks, or an otherwise normal diet. The researchers found that both breastfed and formula-fed infants who consumed the egg yolks had improved iron levels, when compared with the infants who did not.

Egg yolks are ok but egg whites are not. Babies can be allergic to egg whites.

Egg yolks are fine after 6 months, and many people even start feeding egg whites at 9 months, some wait til 12. Not sure there is a good answer.

My concern would be more with the bread. Wheat is also generally not given until 9 or 12 months as it is also an allergen. Commercial bread also has many other ingredients such as eggs and milk. And white bread is pretty much empty calories.

I would try whole grain bread, or whole grain cereal. You can also make muffins using oat flour. Oat flour can be made buy putting oats in a blender and grinding them. Oat flour can be substituted for all the flour in most recipes, though it may make the results more moist. It may not work as well for bread due to the lower gluten.

Also fruit or veg at breakfast would be good. Fruits and veg are far more important than grains, particularly for toddlers. Breastmilk and formula provide all the carbs they need.

Lately I've been feeding my 11 1/2 month old son an egg every day. I mix it up a little - sometimes just scrambled, sometimes a single egg omelette with some veggies and cheese. I don't think it's a problem. Every now and then I make him blueberry pancakes, which he also likes. Edited: I think Diana's ADVICE might be the worst feeding advice for a baby I've ever heard. And that's saying a lot.

Nope. Do you know that eggs can cause allergy? Mostly, because of the egg white. But there's also possibility that a kid has an allergy to egg yolk.

Actually, for the babies WITH allergy-risks (one/& both parents suffer(s) from any kind of allergy), they shouldn't eat eggs possible until their 3rd year B-Day. For the kids with NO allergy-risk, but it's still recommended to give them after their 1st year, however not too much!
The egg yolk is normally fine/ less harmful, but somehow as I said there are kids that are also allergic to egg yolk.

Do you know that infants are developing allergies until their 6th year? Although their parents have no allergy. If I were you, I would prefer to prevent this from happenning, rather than make the baby suffers in the future.

We know, eggs are source of iron, protein but there are also other alternative sources, e.g. broccoli, cereals, legumes, dried fruit (raisins and figs), milk, dark green vegetables, low calories meat, potato with skin, etc.
If I were you, I would give those non-allergy food as substitute. Anyway, they have the same vitamines as eggs. Why should I risk my baby's health. If you really want to give egg yolk, then just give your baby max. once a week, not everyday!

Here is my suggestion for creative breakfast to substitute the vitamines in egg:
- a sclice of whole-meal bread (clown face)
- 10 gr margarine/ butter on top of bread slice
- 1 small chery tomato devide into 2 (for eyes)
- 1/4 a slice of cucumber (for nose)
- Ketchup (for smiley mouth)
- few small slices of green salat (for hair)
Serve it with a glass of milk or additional small portion of yogurt

* Choose bread with NO Gluten (it's mixture of proteins present in cereal grains and flours)
* You can change the clown face with slices of different fruits.

I would suggest half of the whole egg instead of just the whole yolk. Talk to the pediatrician and ask if he has a recommended list of foods suitable for an 11-month-old.

Have you tried fruits and oatmeal?

No. An 11 month old baby should get at least 6 egg yolks a day.

Lot of saturated fat in an egg yolk. Maybe not every day. Try him with the white as well, lots of protein.

It sounds okay. I give my daughter (same age) a packet of oatmeal and formula. If shes hungry she may get a piece of toast or something. It sounds okay to me though.
