Which events?
Sunni insurgents seem to be taking advantage of the fact that the Shiite Militias have gone underground to protect themselves from the Coalition Forces push to get rid of them.
Over all, there are good things coming out of here. The local governments are thriving and actually doing better than the national government. That's a good sign. They will hold their national leadership responsible for what it needs to do.
Infrastructure is getting better. Electricity is still an issue but not because of anything the invasion did. It's because there is a higher demand than at any time before. Iraq is actually running out of electricity and needs new power plants because people are using more. That's a good sign. More people own cars than ever before. That's a good sign.
The insurgency is fighting back but more and more civilians are fighting against them everyday. That's a good sign.
Don't get wrapped around the body count.

We are a country that overall doesn't accept muslims trying to do something in an Islamic region. Nothing good will come of it.

I have a jaundiced view of our invasion, occupation and efforts to create an America-friendly puppet government that provides us access to a huge ammount of oil reserves.

My family is there doing what needs to be done. Iraq needs protection while the new government stabilizes, and so be it.

"Iraq events?"
Well I don't think they will do too well in the pairs figure skating, if that is what you are referring to. The burkas always get tangled in the blades.
