I bought a refurbished IBM T40 a couple of weeks ago and it was running perfectly. It had a clean install of XP professional and didn't have any problems until last night.

The laptop screen just stays black when booting up even though you can hear the fans, and cd drive going.

It has 512mb ram, 40gb hard drive, and pentium m processor.

Has anyone had any experiences like this before or know what the problem may be?

The laptop has a 30 day warranty so if I cant fix it, I can just get a replacement.

Do you have an external monitor you can try? It sounds like the screen or the connection to the screen has broken - which is a common point of failure in older IBM laptops. You can easily confirm this if you have can plug in an external monitor and it works (dont forget to press F7 if you plug in the monitor after it has booted).

I'd GET that replacement, if I was in your position, my friend, - because, it sounds, to ME, like the one you have, NOW, has a DUFF SCREEN! Any "PROBLEMS", with the exchange, - then, please, notify TRADING STANDARDS, as SOON as POSSIBLE
