Ok, I have never heard of the pessary part and am not sure what that word even means, BUT I have used Clotrimazole many times to treat yeast infections a few times during my 3 pregnancies. It's been prescribed for me by 3 different OB's at 3 different practices and I've had no side affects or problems using it. Good luck.

I too think that you should consult your doctor for the correct information however i searched the web and found something that may help you:
The Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) for canesten vaginal pessary (1) notes in the section on pregnancy and lactation:
"In animal studies clotrimazole has not been associated with teratogenic effects but following oral administration of high doses to rats there was evidence of foetotoxicity. The relevance of this effect to topical application in humans is not known. However, clotrimazole has been used in pregnant patients for over a decade without attributable adverse effects. It is, therefore, recommended that clotrimazole should be used in pregnancy only when considered necessary by the clinician. During pregnancy extra care should be taken when using the applicator to prevent the possibility of mechanical trauma".

Hi, i had to use these a couple of times while pregnant. Im sure they are perfectly fine to use as long as prescribed by your doctor who know's you are pregnant, i think it says something about this in the leaflet.Just had a quick look on the internet it says the infection wont harm a developing baby, If the infection is still there when you give birth there is a small chance it can be passed on when baby passes through the birth canal, but it isnt serious and is easily treated. Most babies can pick up oral thrush at some point from poorly sterillized bottles, people putting fingers in their mouth etc, so i wouldnt worry but it is best to get it treated for yourself as well.

"Prodigy Guidance "confirms that Imidazole drugs which includes "Clotrimazole" are safe to use in pregnancy. "Prodigy" suggests that treatment lasting 6-14 days are effective for thrush in pregnancy, so will probably need lower dose pessarys i.e. 100mg over 6 nightsbut would suggest you speak to your doctor because treatment may need to be individualised to you. Care should be used when inserting pessaries in pregnancy for obvious reason

Go to your pharmacist if you are not sure about the Clotrimazole pessary and check with your midwife about the wisdom of leaving the infection be.
This is far too important to ask anyone but a qualified person. PLEASE, for your sake andd your baby's.
