If and when a professional psychologist, psychiatrist, or MFCC forces his own agenda, it's time to get out. A good therapist will guide you gently into the areas that need attention...and this is something that can only be known by what the patient/client talks about. A good therapist will help you to help yourself, rather than prescribing a cookie-cutter solution to a complex issue.
I've been in counseling before, both as an individual and as a couple with my husband. When I was in therapy on my own, there came a time when I felt my counselor was pushing her own agenda. She had made some assumptions about me based on what I had told her about my family. When I asserted that she was going down the wrong avenue, she continued to push me in this particular direction. I wouldn't allow it. Shortly after that session, I stopped seeing her.
Conversely, the therapist my husband and I went to was magnificent. He spent most of his time listening to us talk, then helped us develop a plan of attack to resolve our issues. We're far better off than we were before seeing him.
If you're ever considering seeing someone, talk with the therapist before starting an actual session. Ask what his/her philosophy is with regard to therapy and/or treatment. Ask what a typical session includes. Ask what degree(s) he/she has and where he/she was educated. If this is a psychiatrist, it's important to know that this is a person with both a psychology degree AND a medical degree. Ask if meds are a 1st or 2nd line of defense. Be wary of anyone who prescribes meds like candy. This isn't to say that medication is bad; sometimes it's absolutely necessary. I just think they're way over-prescribed these days.
Hope this helps.

I went to hypnotherapy once & it was the best thing I could have done as it helped me to uncover lots of stuff from my childhood that I had forgotten, but then I was able to deal with it all & move on. He really helped me through a bad time in my life, I'm not sure where I'd be now if I hadn't seeked professional help. There probably are some dodgy professionals out there though, it's always best to check their credentials first & ask if they've dealt with similar cases before etc!

I can't say that I have.
I do believe that psychologists, counselors and people in such professions are invaluable when helping people work through life's problems.
While this assistance is invaluable it is up to the "patient" to want change enough to make it happen and to make the final step themselves. There isn't a magic sentence of miracle cure to fix everything, it is a journey of self discovery.
Because of this I think that if anyone does have the misfortune to have a bad experience they should look at it in a positive light and try to use it to progress onwards.

Rubbish no way. I think that if you don't get the help for things that are tormenting you then they will slowley but surely eat away at your soul. Having a talk to a proffesional really helps to sort out mess up there.
I saw a psych awhile ago and I think that I frightend her with my past. So generaly you will need to find psych that you get along with and have a good repore with.

I spent a year with an alcohol counselor, and it was the best thing in the world for me....I don't know what I'd do if they made it worse....he just listened to me and as long as I wasn't stressed about anything that may cause a relasp, he agreed with everything I said...

Scriptures let us know that no person has seen God at any time. whilst Moses replaced into up on the mountain He replaced into in simple terms accepted to work out the lower back of God through fact God's brightness might have killed Moses. whilst Moses got here down from the mountain his face replaced into nevertheless lit up so as that he had to hide it with a veil so it does no longer scare the human beings. the human beings in this time weren't allowed to get close to the mountain or they might have died. God generally confirmed Himself as some kind of power source..fireplace, cloud, brightness. Jesus on the different hand replaced into no longer seen a handsome guy or woman. The Bible says He replaced into no longer comely. He replaced into from Nazareth yet replaced into no longer a Nazarite so I doubt He had long hair like is portrayed in artwork through fact Scriptures let us know this is a disgrace for a guy to have long hair. He did no longer something to look diverse than absolutely everyone else and accompanied the customs of the cases. If it replaced into the custom to have long hair then Sampson does no longer have had to have been in particular instructed to enhance his long. this is all i comprehend from my examining and information. on the grounds that God invented intercourse and gave us regulations in scriptures for it then no He ought to no longer in all hazard be gay. In heaven it says we can be neither male nor lady...in simple terms think of shall we've those intense-high quality sensations using potential of touching fingertips on the grounds that God invented each and all of the relaxing stuff besides and whilst we awaken on Resurrection Morning we can all get replaced to a heavenly physique. It has to get worse before it gets better. Counselling is very hard and stirs up lots of emotions, but the secret is to see it right through to the very end where the emotions slot into the right place.

I've seen a psychologist, someone else wanted to change something about me. But I had another reason for seeing him.
When he realized I never had a problem with myself, that I was happy with myself, the sessions ended.
