We have many stores here in the united states that are called the dollar store.The entire store is fill with at least a thousand things that are a dollar. Also the dollar menu at most of the fast food places have many choices for a buck.

$1 is about R6 in South Africa, so lets see...
a smallish packet of paper clips or
a 1km - 2km ride in a mini bus taxi (which is a dang scary experience... they have about 40 people crammed in each with chickens, goats and sh*t tied to the roof, and the taxi drivers do not stop for red robots or seem to have any regard for rules of the road).

There are tons of items at our dollar stores. Food, cleaning supplies, school supplies, toys, make-up, flowers, etc. You can find some interesting items if you just look.
