There are lot of players with bad attitudes but the biggest ones that always stand out will be the "blacks"because of just the way it is....don't anyone twist this any other way.......blacks that don't fall into the "yaza boss" category will always be singled out.....this just the way it has always been and will continue I don't care what any says or trys to change it.....sit there read this and try to convince yourself that it is not this way and you would be fooling yourself.....it is a biased world and it will never change.....imagine if Bob Gibson had had the same attitude as Clemens and see if we would not have caught the same type of flack as a Sheffield or Bonds.....welcome to the real world!

I hate to say this is still true, but a great deal is based on race.
Gary Sheffield has never been shy about speaking his mind on any issue. People may not agree with him, but they should not jump all over him for stating his case.

Sheffield has hurt himself by making implications that he would not play his hardest because he was not happy with his contract situation. Just not smart enough to keep some thoughts to himself..

Roger Clemens and AJ Pierzynski appear to be jerks quite often on the field, but no one has ever accused them of not trying their hardest between the white lines.

It's because reporters, like most people, like to classify people as "good" or "bad." It has to do with human psychology and the need for things to be black and white. In reality it is a lot more complicated, with different levels of degree. For example one guy could have a bad attitude toward the media, but work out really hard, or vice versa. Sheffield does have a pretty big ego, on the other hand he puts up good numbers. He was pissed that the Yankees benched him in the playoffs and rightfully so.

First, AJ has been blasted many times in the media and Clemens has been ripped for things like throwing the bat at Piazza and sometimes coming in high and tight.

I can't comment too much on Jones, but Sheffield has openly said he wouldn't play hard unless he gets a new contract in the past.

First of all I think that Pierzynski is bad too. Clemens I think has one but is excused for being good.

Sheffield is a badass and he knows it.

Sheffield has never been known to be a yes man or kiss anyone's @$$. He speaks his mind and tells it like it is. To some people that's not political correct. Because of that he is considered to have an attitude problem. Absolute nonsense. He's always been an outstanding ballplayer and always gives you 100% when he's healthy. I was sorry to see the Yankees get rid of him. I suppose the same can be said about Jones although sometimes I think he feels he's a legend in his own mind. He'll get over that in time.

Clemen's doesn't start club trouble, there's really nothing wrong saying your gonna retire, then change your mind,it's really not starting trouble with the rest of the club,,Now sheffield on the other hand, started so much trouble in the playoffs,Torre puts Arod to bat 8th,, and Sheff remarks to him,,how can he do this to you,,this is a disgrace, how come i'm not batting tonight,,Blah Blah Blah,I'm not playing 1st base next yr,Blah blah blah, and he also talks to the press alot.In fact he just bad mouthed Torre in yesterdays Ny Post..He really should just move on with his life!

It's all about media relations. If you have a good relatioinship with the media, they will always paint what you do in a positive light. Unfortunately, once you have a bad rep, it always snowballs. The media will sensationalize everything you do to sell copy. As this is really the only way we get info on celebs, it's a pretty powerful tool.

Because they have bad attitudes. Sheffield like to shoot his mouth off like Jones. Sometimes the "whole" is more importanat than the "part".

I think the Tigers have seriously hurt their chemistry with this pick-up. Hopefully the other players won't take Shef's prima donna attitude to heart......I hope they can ignore him.
