While a sword may wound you = you will heal. If it kills you it can only do it once. However, writing is permanent and it can keep hurting you forever.

The other quotation "The Pen is mightier than the Sword" has a different meaning. It means that long term change comes through education not through fighting.

The reference might be from the Bible:

Hebrews 4:12 "the word of God is sharper than a double-edged sword" meaning that God's word, the Holy Bible is a very effective tool to sort through clutter in your life and is also useful for teaching, rebuking etc.
