Why such the opposition to the name Brooklyn? Especially on a girl? Yes, it happens to be the name of a city, but it could also be the names Brooke and Lynn put together to come up with the name Brooklyn. And yes, it's becoming sort of popular. Do those of you who are opposed to the name think that it is too masculine? Too associated with New York? I see it as 2 femenine names (Brooke and Lynn) put together and don't even associate the name with New York until I'm reminded of it. But that's just me. I'm due in 3 weeks and am pretty set on this name for my 3rd child, but still need to come up with a middle name.

I'd like to get opinions on both sides of the issue here. Please share.

I most definitely do not think it is to masculine. When I think Brooklyn I think girl.

I just think it is over used. It is really popular right now it seems.

I'm due in about 8 weeks and if it was a girl we were gonna name it Danica Marie. Danica is starting to be around more too but we wanted to stay away from the really popular names.

We are having a boy though so we didn't have to worry!

It's your little girl. If you like it, keep it!

I don't see anything wrong with it, it is very pretty when I hear it, because Brooke itself is a pretty name as it is. I think if you like it, you should use it. I liked a name for my daughter that is now very popular, but I used it anyway cuz it was my favorite. And I think Brooklyn is easier to pair with a middle name than just Brooke or Lynn! You could even spell it different, if you'd like.
And if you think about it, plenty of people use Savannah as a name without getting any flack for it! Go ahead!

I personally adore the name Brooklyn for a GIRL! I think that it is too cute. I am like you & just see it as a combo of the names Brooke & Lynn. I just think that it is too cute. And you can always break it down to a nickname, Brook or Lyn, if you want. It's like Savannah or Dakotah - I dont think of Savannah, GA when I hear that name nor do I think of N. or S. Dakotah (the States) when I hear that name.

Brooklyn Violet Marie Brooklyn Violet Elaine Brooklyn Violet Rose Brooklyn Violet Sage Brooklyn Amelia Violet Brooklyn Eloise Violet Brooklyn Olivia Violet i think of you're suitable off going with something short and straightforward in case you desire to place it after Violet, or something tender and female in case you desire to place it in the previous Violet. solid luck!

I'm not opposed to the idea of the name Brooklyn for a girls name. It is a name of English origin meaning water or stream. Most people probably think it is too masculine. Try Brooklynn or Brooklynne, which are more feminine names.

I think the name Brooklyn sounds very feminine. I think you should go with it for your daughter. How about Brooklyn Faith, Brooklyn Leighanne, Brooklyn Grace, Brooklyn Rose, Brooklyn Elizabeth, Brooklyn Sophia, Brooklyn Ella, Brooklyn Raine???

I think its cute, and to me it does sound more like a girls name then a boys name. Maybe people associate it as a boys name because of soccer player David Beckham's son Brooklyn? But I like it

I love it!!! I think Brooklyn Michelle or Brooklyn Marissa sound nice, I'm partial to those for middle names because one is mine and the other is my daughter's. Congratulations.
