i have grow up with both cats and dogs, well 11 cats and about 6 dogs in my life time. All of my cats that i have own acted like dogs. my one cat pokey that i have now is the most coolest cat. i rescued him, because he lost an eye ( thats y we call him pokey) he follows me everywhere and is always wanting attention. its pretty much how all of my cats were but pokey will always be my favorite. but i like dogs too because when im down in the dumps my dog is there to make me laugh. like my pit he will stand on the back of the couch and jump across the table to the floor and does this somersault thing onto the ground. he only does that when im sad though. just picture a big 60lbs dog flying through the air and taking a roll to the ground. but then again when ever im around my cats they do stupid stuff to. we'll take poke for example. since he is missing one eye he will be laying on the rail to the porch and want me to rub his tummy and just roll off the railing and about 6 or so feet down to the ground and jump back up and run back to me up on the railing again. both animals have some funny characters to them so its a toss up between them both for me

It is a matter of personal preference. Dogs are loyal and affectionate and protective. They are also much more "needy" than cats. They are pack animals, and are devoted to and "need" a "pack", even if their pack is their human companions.

Cats are independent. They can also be loyal and affectionate, and sometimes even protective...but they don't "need" you like dogs do. They are cleaner than dogs, and while they are not interested in playing fetch, they ARE smart.

If you were to go out of town for a few days, you could leave your cat in the house with enough food and water and a litter box, and he/she would be fine. You would come home to a clean house and a cat that was very happy to see you. You certainly could not expect the same from a dog!

We have 2 cats. We also have 2 dogs. All of them are house trained, but the dogs must be walked twice daily, and when the weather is bad it is a pain! I wish I could teach those dogs to use the litter box like the cats do!!

Cats are also self-cleaning, and they do not stink like dogs do when the weather gets hot! Our dogs have to be bathed every 2 weeks to keep the odor down. I find dogs to be much more high maintenance, but they do offer protection, which the cats do not.

So, like I said, it's all a matter of what you are looking for in a pet, and what qualities you consider valuable. I would not think that there is any debate, however, about which ones require the most time and attention and care.

I love my cats. My husband loves the dogs. Go figure...

You could beat your head up against the wall before a dog lover can be convinced of cats superior intelligence. I had a 17yr old Siamese that used the toilet, talked ( had certain words for= outside, food, said "ma-ma" clear as day, Opit =open the cat door, etc... I've always been hesitate to talk about it since people think I'm off my rocker.

neither are superior!! the whole cats vs dogs thing is clearly opinionated!! i personally like dogs better, but i don't think they are superior over cats. and i don't think cats are superior over dogs. it's just which one do YOU like best. don't try to change your friend's opinion.

Why ask the opinion of only cat lovers? If you want the truth ask the masses. What it looks to me you are saying is, "please tell me things that are better about cats so I can tell her". If you believe they are so superior wouldn't you KNOW what makes them superior? If not, maybe they aren't superior...hmmmm.

When you feed your dog, your dog thinks you're a God and you have everything.

When you feed your cat, your cat thinks he's the God and you're his servant.

Hmm, now which would I rather be? :)
