For the most part, I look up to them and give them common courtesy. I don't see what Hitler has to do with it. But for a neighbor or a stranger that was older than me, or appeared as such, I would hold the doors open to them, talk to them in passing in a polite way. I would not ignore them or start yelling around them. My parents taught me better than than. Treat others the way you want to be treated. What goes around, comes around.

I respect them cos they've been around longer, and have more life experience, so will always give them my seat in a bus or something, but just cos they;re old doesnt mean I have to respect their oppinions (eg hitler if he was alive)

Only if they are deserving of respect. A person's seniority in age doesn't automatically qualify that person for a higher degree of respect, particularly if their behavior doesn't warrant it.
