My little one slept in a travel bed (by First Years) in his crib. He is about 3 mths now and just last week I started lying him in the crib and he sleeps great. The travel bed comes in two different styles. One with a bottom bumper at the feet or without. My parents bought the one with the bumper. If you prefer this idea I would personally go with the one without, due the the height restriction. They have a great head bumper, starts from one side and goes around the head and down to the other side. It has special designed sides so it won't block the baby's breathing.
In my living room I have set up the playpen with the attached bassinet.

It isn't necessary to have both a cot and a crib. You can make do with just a cot, but obviously not just a crib. With a cot, make the cot up with sheets down near the bottom. That way you do not risk your child bury itself in the sheets by wriggling down in them. It might seem like a big waste of space leaving all the top part of the cot empty, but do not be tempted to put any rolled up blankets or the like across the cot to make the area smaller as your child can bury it's face in them and be unable to breath. As long as you remember those two methods, there is no problem using a cot right from birth. In some hospitals you can also discuss this question with the nursing staff as well as many of the other questions you might have. If you are lucky to have a good hospital, the staff can be quite helpful and a great resource for new mothers.

There is no reason why bub cant go straight in the cot. This makes it easy later but if you want a crib I would suggest that you get a bassinet instead as then when it comes time to out bub in the cot you can put bub it the cot bassinet and all for a couple of nights/weeks then remove it...... I did this and had no dramas what so ever. But if you have a crib you can not do this.

A bassinet will be fine for a little bit if you plan to keep the newborn in your bedroom, unless you have a separate room for the newborn A crib with a bumper pad will do. When my first son was born, my wife and I went and bought a bassinet, Crib, changing table. We went all out and bought what the sales clerk said we needed, well we didn't use the crib for a month or two and we could have saved a few bucks and used that money for diapers and wipes

you need a crib. a cradle is nice to have along with a crib if you want the baby to be near you in the livingroom etc. your baby should stay in a crib for almost 2 years or until old enough not to fall out of bed.you can use a cradle for only a few months as they are not that stable when the baby gets bigger.always make sure the sides of the crib are locked tight when you put baby in to sleep. good luck

Your child can sleep in a crib for a couple of years. After that you'll need to get him/her a bed. Don't waste money on a bassinet.

Nowdays you can get the crip that turns into a toddler bed, then into a day bed and then into a double bed. thats what i have for my daughter. and the next step would b e the toddler bed. it basically turns into a little bed, but it was a railing on the side so she wont be able to fall out of bed. after that is the day bed. basically the toddler bed, but with no railing. and then the double bed....for that you need to buy another mattress...but the railing for the crip turns into the headboard for the double bed
hope this helps

Its easier to borrow or buy a bassinette so you can have it next to your bed for the first six months. Then buy a cot

You don't really *NEED* either at all. Baby can nap in your arms or in a sling, and sleep in your bed with you.
