it is a guitar pickup and prices vary it all depends what kind of acoustic we are talking about and where do you want to place it because placement has a lot to do with the sound you will get out of it unless you are not very picky , in pickups as in microphones or guitars for that matter it all comes down to your personal taste and ear,the cheapset mics can work wonders but can also be not very good at giving you the sound that you might be looking for by the same token expensive mics can sometimes make it a nightmare to nail the sound that you want,is something that nobody can give you a final answer usually you have to go to the music store and try a few and see how much tunning you can do with them , if they can be in diferrent places ,etc

there are many things you can use, you can get a clip on microphone, or a soundhole pick up. if you want really good quality and sound quality there is a pick up called a piezo pick up. many companies make them, the most popular seems to be made by fishman, it is fitted under the bridge of the guitar and a box is fitted on the side of the guitar that has the volume and tone controls. obviously this means cutting a hole in your guitar so should only be done by experts. the units usually start at about £60, your local guitar dealer will be able to sort it out for you.
