I think it is so influential because it appeals to, and can appeal to everyone. It doesn't matter if you're rich, poor, what your personal philosophy is, or where you come from; there are songs and performers among pop music that appeal to you and entertain you.
When you refer to "pop music", you refer to the current music that is most popular today and has been for the last few decades of the 20th century. However, when you look at musical genres from long ago and centuries ago, these genres were actually the "pop music" of its' day. The music just wasn't as widely available and promoted then as it is now in this age of exponentially expanding technology. So, it is possible for anyone to listen to music from say, the Big Band Era all the way back to Classical and ancient ethnic sources of music and find something they enjoy. These sounds may not seem to be in as great a demand as "pop music", but they are most definitely still alive, and are still vibrant forms of entertainment.
Just "keepin' it real", ya know?

The answer is.. it hasn't!
There are more people listening to classical music now - in the UK - than ever before. Classical is very much alive and growing stronger.
Country and Western is also very strong. As for progressive rock, just look at the concert given in Hyde Park. Many of the greats from pop yet who topped the bill. The Who and the band that is probably the greatest ever Pink Floyd and people stayed until the early hours just to get a glimpse.

The thing is, pop music has killed nothing, the problem is that it is, almost by definition, the manufactured product of the record industry. The industry likes ´pop because it is easy to control; all those talentless wanneabes out there will do whatever is asked of them in order to get their fifteen minutes of fame. So, all that the mainstream music industry puts out and promotes is pop. You watch tv, you listen to the radio, and it is all the smae cack, so it seems that that is all there is. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are musicians everywhere, doing all kinds of stuff, they just dont get into the mainstream because they care more about making music and less about creating product. So dont worry; real music isnt about to go away!

Surely pop music is a generic term for which ever type of music is popular right now??
In past times, big band music, or classical music, or tribal music might have been the 'popular' and 'norm' of the day.

there is no longer basically snobs in song they in existence additionally and the guy examining this has probable been a snob faster or later in there existence(sorry to assert). in case you single out a definite variety as "snobby" only via fact the that song community is then i'm guessing you have a small song circle. regrettably as human beings there is mostly a could be extra ideal than somebody else just to get the delight, if somebody spends the time studying something faster or later they are going to at last understand extra approximately it than some human beings, It rather relies upon on the persons mentality in the event that they are ignorant interior the song component then they are probable lacking a pair screws in others

Simple - it is because it is seen as sexy. Sex sells.
Most people who buy music are 10-20 years old and buy music that is sung by someone they either want to look like or have sex with. That is why 95% of all chart hits are by singers aged 16-30 who are slim and good looking.
So that is why pop is so powerful - because it is sexy and therefore popular.

Pop music is designed to appeal to the majority of people. It's mainstream and safe. Other types of music are less 'safe', more unusual, I'd say

because the pop in pop music denotes 'popular' and popular is part of the mass culture that is dominating the charts at the moment, during the last couple of years. because it is popular and recognisable, pop music is often frowned upon as being cheap, disposable, mass marketed and generates a lot of profit, as well as it being commercial and mainstream
