Since he has a BM like clockwork every morning when we get up - I'm considering buying a little potty and sitting him on it first thing for a try. He is not even walking yet.. is this wishful thinking? Moms any pearls of wisdom you can share on the subject?

I waited until my kids were closer to 18 months, but people tell me it's better to do it earlier.
You could buy a potty.Maybe you cou ld gently introduce him to the potty.
Start by putting him on it once a day in the morning a gradually increase.
He may not be well at this until he can tell you he has to go and it will be easier to potty train when he can walk.reward for the good never punish for accidents.
good luck

I believe this is too young. I was always told that one should wait until the child expresses an interest in the potty and a willingness to be trained. This is what we did. A 13 month old may not understand what you are doing and become frightened, which will really set you back. Forcing the issue will cause an unnecessary uphill battle and can actually cause the potty-training process to go longer as the child may regress and absolutely refuse to be trained.

He is still to young. Wait until he is walking and start to introducing the potty when he is about 18 mths. Don't push him to use the potty as it may all back fire and just doesn't want to have anything to do with it. Remember when he is starting to go on the potty, praise him when he goes and don't yell if he has accidents. Just say maybe next time you'll make to the potty. Have patience.

Thats like suggesting I put my 6 month old on the toilet now, since she has a BM every morning. If they are not walking, there is no point. Wait till your child is walking. Try encourage walking instead of potty training.

my personal advice is don't even consider it yet my little boy is 3 in may an wasn't potty trained till bout 4months ago. He needs Tobe able to tell u that he need to go. By all means buy the potty but i just feel Ur starting way to early, hes still a baby.

I think you have the right idea putting him on a potty. Other then that being a boy if dad is around or another man aka dad or close guy friend have them take him to the bathroom with them. Just to watch. Children pick up on these things quickly if they see others doing it oftenand it never hurts to have a head start so when he does start walking it wont be so new to him

you can introduce the potty - play with it with dolls, teddies etc..

usually you wait for the child to show an interest or that they know what they are doing, but there is no reason why you cant sit your child on it a few times a day to get them used to it.

It is your child and you know them best - just dont force the issue and expect too much too soon

If he isn't walking yet it seems silly to try to potty train him. Wait until he shows interest in the toilet otherwise you will be fighting an uphill battle.

My pediatrician told me we can start potty-training since the baby can firmly STAND,not walk!I was surprised, but tried starting with 7 month.Occasionally we are successful in that:)
