After keeping my computer updated every now and then , I realise that Windows updates , the old and the new ones is being stored in the Add/remove programs section therefore taking up space. Is it recommended to remove the very old updates , ones that I have in early 2005 and 2006? Or should I keep them all the way?

No...u neednt keep all those old updates as they are usually already added to the system to perform the tweaks....it will not be a problem if u delete any one of these updates and most of the times the newer updates come bundled with features of the previous one

Keep everything in take. Some of the new updates won't operate properly without the older updates. Never remove program files, even if you "think" they are not needed.

If you have no intentions of uninstalling them from your computer in the future, then i suggest you to use CCleaner to just remove the update folders. these folders are for backup and you can remove thes manually also. Just go to Windows folder and make sure you have Hidden folders enabled. Then remove all the folders whose name starts with "$NtUninstall".

What will be the best is to change your OS from XP to XP SP2. It has all the patches released by Microsoft integrated together. It will make your system much faster.
