Last week I was out sick for two days. I had a English speech that was due Monday, but since I was out for two days, me teacher gave me an extension. My speech was suppose to be given yesterday, but I was not ready because of extreme exhaustion (like my body still healing after my sickness). So, I get to go today for a late grade of -15 points automatically. Is this fair? It is impossible to do work when you are not feeling well. I did not have my speech completed. Would it be justifiable of me to ask my teacher to not take off points if I can get a note my the doctor or my mom saying that I was still recooperating after my sickness and really did try to complete my assignment on time? Or do I take the deduction? What do you think I should do?

Be happy your teacher gave you an extension. Just take the deduction. It's not the end of the world. Most teachers give students an F if they turn the reports or speechs in late.

I have went to work with the full blown flu. When I was in college I was sick a few times, I emailed the professor and asked for work, and any notes. Some times its about forcing yourself even when your not well or tired.

When you have kids you have to do alot of things you dont feel like doing when your sick or tired. Its called life. Sometimes its really good and sometimes it sucks lol

So I feel the teacher is in the right. Your old enough a note from mommy isn't going to work anymore. When i was in school if you did not get it done the day it was to be turned it it was a big fat ZERO. We were not given the option for a late grade.

I think you need to give the speech and take the grade your given....... And the points off are your fault bottom line.

life isn't fair get used to it ! even when one is ill you should still do the work. How sick were you or is it just an excuse as you were not prepared most of us have been there done that so learn from the experience some things just have to be done and done on time or else there is a penalty. However you could reason with the teacher if you feel justified. You should not need the back up. You need to learn to take care of yourself. It is not easy but you will be better for it so good luck.....

Take the deduction, there isn't a reason to ex-tress you self for something you have already learn, to do, maybe not perfect although whom I'm to say this is exactly what you will need in life in the future to make of your self, a better person?, a better speaker?, remember that you are a Human being too, and we do have some freedoms, which for society we may don't deserved to use to oftener?, although this may be well be the time in which you should consider your self, who you are Human. and there is nothing that can change that?, but only you. pressures I don't like it, and I don't like it when we don't need it especially when you have done your best, when your best isn't as such for someone else?, it seams to me that trying harder is a waste of time any way, so there what is left can drain you, so take the deduction, instead of the ex-tress or future disappointment, to develop an allergy to certain situations that, in the future can only be the cause of a chronic hilliness.

Grades dont matter as such, they are just guide lines to tell u how u have performed. All that matters is how much u learned and that is what u are going to carry for your life time not your grades.
Your teacher is fair in deducting 15 marks as if she did not do so it wont be fair on other students who had to present in time and there will be many students making false excuses in future.
I hope u got my point...

you should have already had the speech done before you even got sick, because with speeches, you have to practice and practice and practice....so technically, all you had to do when you got back to class was polish the speech...

in fact, you were not prepared and you were given enough notice to be prepared....

so yes, the teacher was more than fair and you didn't step up to the plate

By all means get the notes from your doc and your mom and give them to your teacher. I couldn't hurt and would probably be worth a try. I'm glad that there is someone your age that is concerned about school and how well they do. Good for you!Keep up the good work.

Did you speak to your teacher before hand, explaining you still didn't feel up to it? If not, then yes it is justified. Communication is an important skill in life.
