I've taken on a job, albeit temporary, from a woman who's working in another dept who also is a temporary and I've just asked her one question about where something is, seeing as she was working here before me last week. I am surrounded by yellow folders on this desk (about 15) and I asked her if she'd seen something I was on the lookout for. She said, "Can you see a yellow folder on your desk?" I answered, "Well yes, there are loads". She then said aggressively, "Look, you're not listening to what I'm saying". So what did I do so wrong?

You did nothing wrong. She didn't know where it was and she was on the defensive. Just don't ask her anything and stay away from her unless it is absolutely necessary.

I think you might have caught her at a bad moment? And if this is the only occurrence of having a 'bully' moment, you really need to get a thicker skin. This is hardly a case that would be called 'bullying' as a Union Rep, I would advise you not to call it such.
Now if she gets to the point where it is constant unhelpfulness, bully tactics, aggressive behaviour etc, then consult your line manager, work colleagues or friends on the subject, perhaps there is an reason for it that may not be apparent.
Otherwise, right a formal letter of complaint to your employers outlining your problem, they will action this pretty quickly once you do that, but be prepared to back it up.
Good Luck

She probably is under a lot of pressure
or does'nt know what it is you're looking for
she may have told you wha tyou had to do and you did'nt understand her
who is over you?
you should ask them for help not the temp
she seems to have an attitude problem though
I's steer clear if I were you
but hey if she asks you for help say "sorry I cant be of assistance at the moment I'm too busy you will have to ask someone else" then go and have a long cup of coffee where she can see you
and have a secret smile to yourself

If it just happened once, then I'd chalk it up to someone who's just having a bad day. However if this or something similar happens again, I think I'd respond by saying, "Hey, I'm really sorry I bothered you; I'll go find somebody who actually knows what they're talking about." :-)

What a nightmare. Pretend she doesnt exist and ask help from someone else if you can. I have had that experience before. She obviously has a problem, just endure and wait for your next job ....

Ignore it . Carry on and do your best, If she is a Temp she might not be there very long with an attitude like that. It might not be just you she is rude with.

You did nothing wrong. Asking for information is more sensible than guessing. She should be reported

Explain to her that she must have mistaken you for someone who actually gives a dam what she thinks

try to work with her till you squeeze an explanation out of her. if ultimately unsucessful, then talk to superiors about her conduct.
