Is there any other country in Europe that has free health care like the UK's NHS? I'm not asking because I'm going on holiday to Europe I just want to know if it's fair to compare German hospitals etc with UK ones.

Yes the French system is considered the best in the word by the world health organisation. The system work similar to the NHS but charges around 20% of the charge to you. This is covered by an small insurance (mutuelle) that all French have. Once you reach pension the 20% charge is no longer paid as all health-care is free. The difference is that you can go to any doctor you wish and in the emergency there is no waiting.
The waiting period for a heart or any other op is 1 day, I believe in Germany it is a disgusting 4 days.
The system will cover you the same as a local if you are a citizen of the EU and carry an E111 card.( this means that you may have the part charge if you are not on pension but 100% covered if you are on pension. I travel there a lot and if I ever have something serious go wrong with me I hope I'm in France.
I'm sure there is a Frenchman somewhere that can add to this.
