paint first and consider linoleum instead of carpets which cause major allergies.
pull the old carpet up and u will see what i mean by allergies.

I would choose your carpet, but not install it. Then choose your paint to match the carpet and paint. Since you will be replacing the carpet you don't have to worry about drips or spills. When the paint job is done, have the carpet installed. You may have to do some minor touch up painting near the floor after the carpet installation, but that is much easier than cleaning a paint spill out of new carpet.

I have been remodeling my little home for almost a year now, I have the carpet/flooring colors picked out so that the other things I am putting in coordinate with those colors but I will wait until I am done plastering, painting and replacing cabinets and counter tops before installing the new flooring. It will be the very last thing brought in to finish the remodel.

It would be better to paint /decorate first , then see about getting new carpets ,or else the carpets might get ruined if you spill paint

Congratulations! If your anything like me, the carpet would be the last. That way, when you paint, you won't be worried about spills.
