males and females were the same thing when they were in the womb as a fetus (well we were all girls in the beginning) but as we developed men started to differentiate themselves from females. We grew a more prominent penis (women have the clitoris which is a small penis) and as women grow up they grow breasts but men don't. We are both the same thing just one has more "bigger" parts than the other.

The only differences between man and woman are the Y chromosome man have.
By right the dominant sex produced should be female due to the XX chromosome, but if a Y is present it will be a male.

The male will also have most physiological triats of the female. But because of the Y chromosome, will have a little brother and different amount of hormones.

The nipples stays but does not function. something like a redundant tail bone in the human spine

You're not a Big Brother fan then? Jade Goodie's bloke asked the same thing!! It's because when we are very young in the womb, we are all female for about the first 6 weeks!! and nipples on men are like a hang-over from that (a bit like our tail bones and appendixes)

Because for the first few weeks in the womb, all babies are female and so have female characteristics including the formation of nipples. Male hormones aren't added to the stew until later in the pregnancy and the nipples can't be un-formed and so are still there!

The moment we are conceived, by default, our bodies are female.
However, this will change during the process of the growth of the feotus to an embryo. Hence, we have nipples because we are not determined off the bat if we are male or female and only to be decided later if we are to be one or the other.

we are mammals and blessed with body hair, three middle ear bones, and the ability to nourish our young with milk that females produce in modified sweat glands called mammary glands. although the females have the mammary glands, we all start out in a similar way in the embryo. during development, the embryo follows a female template until about six weeks, when the male sex chromosome kicks in for a male embryo. the embryo then begins to develop all of its male characteristics. men are thus left with nipples and some breast tissue.

Nipples in mammals represent the lost mammary glands in males. They are thus vestigeal. The evolutionarists believe that early men used to have mammary glands like that of females. Due to discontinous use they got gradually reduced and nonfunctional.

Hello,

(ANS) All I do know is that male nipples are a genetic throw back to our evolutionary past & early ape like ancestors . In other words they probably did have some particular functional purpose long ago but which is nolonger required now we stand & walk upright on two legs.
