Okay, my college teacher after making us take a test. brought out one of the student's test and read what the student had wrote. practically the student failed miserably but to make things worst the teacher mocked the student, by reading the student's poor writing skills. although he never mentioned the student's name, i believe it was a person i knew. at the very end of the test was a note stating that he needed more help, but the teacher only mocked every word the student wrote. Afew students stood up and demanded that he stopped mocking the student's writting and get to something more important at hand. then the teacher said he just wanted to address the issue of this student. it was clear that everyone was disgusted by the way this teacher presented this person's test. now i'm angry, and want to get this teacher fired for doing what he did to this poor student. who do i talk to and what can i do to help this student?

I am glad that the class was upset and hopefully you learnt from this experience but I would not take any action re the teacher apart from talking about the actions which were definitely in poor taste. If anything you could help the student who I'm afraid definitely sounds like he/she needs help. Be more considerate, be kinder offer assistance if at all possible but be gentle as the student may not be aware of his poor writing skills. Perhaps this is why the teacher was so unkind.

You could protest to the Dean, or the Head of his Department, or the school ombudsman, if your college has one. It might do some good in this particular case -- that is, lead to an apology -- but it unlikely to change much. Remember that college and university professors are not hired, primarily, to teach...and most have no particular ability or training to do so.

Some schools have a rating proceedure in which studnets can submit feedback about particular profs, and this is made available to studenst to guide their choices in the future. But it has little real effect on the quality of teaching you will get.

The fact is post-secondary education is set up to weed out large numbers of people; anyone who is unprepared, or who is unable to withstand the demands of the courses will be exposed not merely to sarcasm and mockery, but to elimination. Of the hundreds or thousands of students who enter the university or college in the first year, only a fraction will stay to graduate; everyone knows this and they do not much mind.

Think back on your days in secondary school longingly; that was the last time you are likely to find teachers who really did want you to succeed, and who would give you multiple chances to do so. All that nagging to hand stuff in, or to resubmit unsatisfactory work is absent in post-secondary.

And I bet you didn't appreciate it at the time.
