We are not sponsored by UNICEF,it's actually an agreement. On Thursday, UNICEF and FC Barcelona will make public their alliance. As apart of the agreement,we are allowed to use the 'brand' UNICEF on our shirts.
The motto of the agreement is Barça, more than a club, a new global hope for vulnerable children. With this alliance,FC Barcelona will give financial support to projects around the globe. In particular, those which help to protect children where there are humanitarian crises and those where AIDS is on the increase.

This is their first time in years since Barcelona were actually sponsored by a company. Unicef is getting bigger and bigger, but the sponsor is only on the shirts for champo league. With Barcelona's loss against Liverpool, if Barca lose their next leg and therefore get knocked out, it looks like that Unicef won't be paying Barca anymore until next season. Unicef is actually one of the biggest charities in the world, so no wonder they can afford it.

On Thursday, UNICEF and FC Barcelona will make public their alliance; the announcement will coincide with the celebration of the worldwide work achieved by UNICEF.
The motto of the agreement is Barça, more than a club, a new global hope for vulnerable children. The presentation will be made at the United Nations Central office in New York on the 7th September at 17:00 local time (23:00 in Catalonia). Present will be the executive director of UNICEF, Ann M. Veneman and president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta.
With this alliance, FC Barcelona will give financial support to projects around the globe. In particular, those which help to protect children where there are humanitarian crises and those where AIDS is on the increase.
International Projection
UNICEF was founded in 1946 by the United Nations general assembly in response to the urgent needs of children across Europe following the Second World War. The organisation since then has worked in 157 different countries worldwide, helping children to survive and make a living for themselves.
As a major provider of vaccines to some of the world's poorest countries, UNICEF works to improve health and nutrition, to see that they receive basic education, to make sure they always have access to clean potable water and that they are protected from violence, exploitation and AIDS.

I really salute Barcelona for helping poor children with their money via Unicef. Other clubs should follow their great way.
But I'm not agree with Unicef to make Barcelona new hope or role model for childrens. Becuz Barcelona are filled with snobbish football player and they like to cheat on the football game.

Have a look at
http://www.fcbarcelona.com/esp/noticias/noticias/n06090710.shtml OK it's only in Catalan and Spanish!
The club is to give £1 million a year to UNICEF. The club is allowed to use the UNICEF logo in return. I look forward to the shirts.
The announcement is dated 07, SEP 06
The questioner assumes that charitable work is only carried out by English people. Wrong!
