This is a guy who always goes on about how edgy and radical he is, but I looked into it, and he receives thousands and thousands in government grants. Should he not be really radical and stat his own business?

I don't see radicalism being anti-government. One could be radical to put government on its toes to ensure that things are done rightly. Grants from government does not mean he should not oppose it. In fact such grants puts the guy on his toes because the government will want to monitor him closely to slight him.
