I have heard about women being "moved on" by the police for having the audacity to feed their baby in a public place (shock, horror!) Who on earth would complain, and why? Surely it's one of the most natural and beautiful things humans can do? Will anarchy ensue from the vague possibility that one might just glimpse an inch of breast flesh? I honestly cannot understand the offence, especially since there are hundreds of young women flaunting several inches of cleavage who are not "moved on". What are your opinions?

Some people are saying they find it gross. Personally I find body piercing (particularly on the face) unpalatable, and so I avoid looking at people who have piercings, but nobody stops them from showing them in public.
For those saying we don't crap in public either, that's surely a question of hygiene (and several hundred years ago people did!)
As for worrying that children might see breasts...er.... so what?!

I think it is disgraceful - when I had my eldest daughter and was breastfeeding her we went away for a long weekend break. As we arrived at the hotel my partner was checking us in and I sat in the corner of the foyer to feed the baby - the manager came over and wanted to usher me into a back room. I told him I was ok where I was - thank you. He insisted on me moving in case other people walked in!!! I decided not to stay at that hotel and found another one who didn't have issues with breastfeeding.
EDIT: I don't think people realise that when a woman breastfeeds a baby we don't actually just lob our breasts out for all to see - it can actually be done very discreetly without anyone even glimpsing a nipple - a child's health and nutrition is far more important than some objecting fool who doesn't like to see it - if it offends you just look away

I think it depends on the woman doing the feeding. Some women are discreet and just feed the baby, others make a big deal of it, like it's a sacred ritual to be respected by all, which I don't like. So, I guess I object to SOME women breastfeeding in public, and not others! How's that for an opinion! I also think not everything natural is necessarily beautiful.

The women have to take some responsibility about this problem with breastfeeding in public. Breastfeeding can be done discreetly. I breastfeed two children anywhere I wanted without any problems. Most of the time the people around me thought my children were sleeping in my lap and did not realize I was breastfeeding. Common courtesy goes along way in numerous situations.

The purpose of the breast is to feed the baby.
I think most women understand that, but many men feel bewildered by the sight of it being used.
I think we need to feed our babies discreetly, but in public places.
There is no law which could condemn the breast for being used as nature intended.
Woman have won many rights formally denied us, now we need to fight for the right to be women.

Shona L,
I live in the UK and Ive never heard of dat issue takin place over here. Oh my....Could u tell me where exactly in the US it happens? Is it everywhere or in particular states?
I personally think that itz soo unfair to treat breastfeedin women like that!! If some narrow-minded ppl are 'afraid of seein a fresh mother's breast then they should look away.
:)
Im givin u a star for this intrestin question!

Babies have to be fed. I don't really see a problem with it. I guess people who are a touch prudish and can't accept nature are the ones who will complain. I mean we have breasts just for that! Hell, I don't make a point of staring at someone who is breast feeding, because I don't want to be rude, but I certainly don't think that its offensive.

ok i think if you have to do it and the baby is hungry and there isnt anywhere else at that moment - you should feel free to do it - but not be completely provocative about it and try and be a little covered. However i dont think you should flaunt it and pull your breasts out anywhere. My sister had a baby and breast feeds when she's out if she cant go anywhere else, but she is private about it most of thetime and covers herself as much as she can.

I agree! It is such a shame that such a natural thing can be seen as inappropriate. It is ludacris! Imagine a women bottle feeding her baby being told to move on!!! For goodness sake it is essential that a baby has milk - it is their only food source and everyone knows that breast is supposed to be best.
I really wish more and more women would breastfeed in public so that it becomes more commonplace. Obviously doing it discreetly is important.
Mothers need to be supported in this not "moved on"!!!

, Cant get more natural than breast feeding, in my own personal experience, I had more negative comments from women than that of men, I have seen women dig there husbands because he glanced, and woman who breast feed are not exactly getting them out! they are covered by the child, and clothing. breasts are seen as a sexual part of a women's body first, by women as well as men, before they think of them as a source of food for our children, I feel because of the media and soft porn industry. I applaud women who breast feed more power to you,
