I think that at this point, image and charisma is more important than any other attribute. With the media packaging the candidates, ability and experience take a back seat. So I think America wants someone who is attractive, a nice smile, a good sense of humor, well spoken...ect...It just happens that a certain candidate who has those attributes just happens to be part African-American. And just about everyone in this world seems to believe the our president is the very embodiment and reflection of all Americans...I think Obama has the image America needs. The fact that he is part African can just help his image more..so I think it matters......should it? no it shouldn't matter...does it bother me? not nearly as much as ignorant people bother me, and not nearly as much as image counting more than substance, but like any product, you need to consider the consumer.

color and sex should never matter in anything but in the real world it often does. right now my cat would be a better president.
I am not being sexist or racial when I say the US is not ready for a woman or black person to be president. Way too much hate out there. put a black in the oval office and washington d.c. would probably see a lot more than it usual share of violence, personally I think its time for a change. If the right person came along i would vote for him or her

It must matter, otherwise you wouldn't ask that question. If some one is a certain color then why would they not want people to notice it? Every one is equal yet every one is not the same color. And if you get mad every time some one does something stupid your going to live an angry life. It does not concern me, it may be questions like this that constantly stires up controversy.

The first time will be a big deal depsite the fact that it is 2007. In another 50 years the face, colour and religion of politics will come full circle.

regardless, it's going to matter, especially with the racial and sexual tensions in this country the way they are. Obviously we've proven we're no better, can we overcome it? will enough people give democratic approval to the 1st ever such action here? It is highly publicized about other women and black world leaders; reflecting a global interest in cassical social structure reorganization with regards to women.

With blacks being on 12% of the US Population, I do not think they have a chance of seeing one as President for quite a while, period. And why should they? After all, they are only 12% of the population and if the elections are run anywhere near honestly, well, you will not see a black man as President for a long time.
HOWEVER, I'd of voted for Alan Keys a few elections back. He's a black man with a true sense of decency about him. And he had ZERO chance of winning.
