"Hands off! That's mine!" is probably how clubs treat each other. Major clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea want to get the best players to make more money off what these great players demonstrate. But hey, it's not like "first come, first serve". It's more like, "more money, better serve".

1. Chelsea do not buy players to stop other clubs doing so, but if a club goes in for a player they're watching they follow suit

2. Arsenal and Real Madrid never went for Michael Ballack. Arsene Wenger won't pay any player that kind of wage and Real Madrid didn't need him

3. Man Utd have themselves bought players Arsenal or Chelsea are looking at.

Players all three clubs wanted and where they went:

Michael Essien - Chelsea
Theo Walcott - Arsenal
Abou Diaby - Arsenal
Nemanja Vidic - Man United
Shaun Wright-Phillips - Chelsea

It;s not "interrupting the planning" to be interested in the same player as another club is it?

things like this always happen. if a big club is after a player, then they pay attention and look into the possibilty of signing him. its about making sure your team is one above the other. that is why many clubs try to keep things low key.

i just want to quickly reply to theliving answer. it doesnt matter if a club accepts an offer. that does not mean they sold. only unless the player accepts the offer from that club is the deal complete. everton accepted both manu and newcastle bids and they both offered contracts. he chose manus.

Did Man U not buy Wayne Rooney only after an offer had been accepted for him by Everton off Newcastle?

It works both ways.

are you serious ? if a good player becomes available, he generally goes to the highest bidder, loyalty and childhood dreams don't matter in football.

a lot of foreign players want to play for MANCHESTER UNITED and liverpool but money talks, and the lure of the capital, chelski can afford to over pay.

E.G. dogbreath didn't even know where chelski was, when his agent announced he was going there.
