What have you given up for Lent?

I don't give anything up for any cause other than for myself. I have learned that I have huge reserves of will power. I quit drinking and smoking 12 years ago this month. I did it the old fashioned way, no gimmick's or tricks. I also think that people shouldn't have to give up everything just to live a few years longer. If you want to give something up for your religion, I say fine, I will eat fish on Fridays and try to be the good person that I am most of the time. Sometimes I think that for all of what its worth I haven't really gotten much back from giving up but I believe in living with goals and guidelines. My guidelines, I will leave God out of it. One thing for sure is that I won't be bent during Lent.

I'M not Catholic so I haven't given up anything. As far as I am aware Baptist do not observe Lent. Where does it say we should? I'm not being argumentative, I'm curious.

I don't like the pressure of giving up things because I don't like people throwing it in my face when I slip up. I just try to be a better person and work at it each day.
