I have been a sawyer (not necessarily a logger) as part of my job for almost 12 years now. I've been certified at the highest level for 8 of those years. I would love to know any body else's experiences in this typically male dominated area! what are you high lights and pet peeves concerning this? And guys answer too if you know a female who is!

Ouch Tina! Wow, I've heard fables of the leg gashes, but now I feel as though I've had a real, live account! How badly did that hurt? Oh, and believe me, I've witnessed many guys who've done the same with the face cut! I thought that it was funny!

Chainsaws use too much fuel. My woman uses the handsaw before she brings in the firewood.

I think, that being a female, that sometimes I think I have a little more to prove than the average guy. So, like any foolish male, sometimes I leap before I look, even though I know better.

Like foregoing safety equipment when "the guys" are around, because, damn, they aren't wearing chaps, hardhats or boots.

Seems though, that the odds catch up with me whenever I tempt fate by foregoing the basics. The day I was just going to help my brother-in-law and buck up a couple of fir logs. No need for chaps...sure...but need for a visit to the ER after I slipped and sliced a good gash out of my thigh.

The day that my father-in-law was watching as I took down a small fir next to the house. Opps, made my facecut on the wrong side as I was too nervous. Lucky I was able to move the pickup close enough, attach a chain and pull the tree down in the right direction.

In other words, be yourself. Ignore the male (and female) posing and work safely and effectively and forget about the gender, at least as much as you can....

Eh, I thought you meant just women who have a chainsaw. I don't do it for a living, but I got one a few years ago to cut firewood with and it's my favorite toy, lol! The first time I cranked it on, WHOOHOO!

Funny story, I was on the side of a major highway year before last, cutting mesquite trees out of some rancher's fence line, and these cars kept slowing down as they passed me, like from 70 mph to 30 mph. My hair was loose, and it was really long, so there was no doubt I was a chick. Cars kept honking, passengers were hollering. Too funny. One even stopped, guys get out and watch. One was like "Man I LOVE TEXAS! You NEVER see this in California!!" I still laugh remembering those two goofballs.

I don't do it for living either, but I done it a fair couple of times when I needed to bring down some trees in the garden and saw them into firewood.
I also sometimes do small maintainance jobs in the places that get overgrown - just to clear the bushes and small trees out.
