What does successive occupations mean in the archaeology world?

It means that the research site was occupied by different groups of people at different times. It's a special problem because of how it can be confusing to sort out which group of people left which evidence at the site in question.

It means that the city or place was lived in by groups of people on after another in succession.

I would say an area was successfuly occupied for many years or generations
