Drinking a toast means a group of people raising their glasses to honour someone, recognise their achievements, or wish them luck, and then taking a sip of their (usually alcoholic) drink.

One possible scenario as an example: at a wedding reception, everyone has a glass of champagne and someone will propose a toast to the bride and groom, at which point everyone else present will raise their glass, say 'the bride and groom', and take a sip.

Toasts might also be drunk to someone who has died, or to celebrate something special (e.g. graduation, getting engaged).

Hope this helps!
