I'm a male and I want to become better at singing....well I want to sing. I'm a horrible singer and people tell me my voice is too flat, but I really want to be good. I've asked people around and they all tell me to do these weird vocal lessons, drink lots of water, and sing from my diaphram instead of my voice. I mean i try, but is there something to help people who aren't good singers to become better. 17 years old by the way. thanks. And a vocal teacher isn't really someone i need. Not yet anyways.

You either can or can not sing. Any amount of vocal talent needs direction. (I.E. - vocal lessons) The voice is an instrument and just as it is with any other instrument, must be practiced. You must learn to hold a note. But if you are a horrible singer (as you profess) then vocal lessons may not help you.

If you are religious, try hanging out with people from your church choir, maybe they can help. .... Otherwise, the world needs custodial engineers too.

All I can say is you can or can't sing. There's no question that singing is largely a talent. If you can kind of sing you can get help to become better. Things like hitting the right notes all the time, better breathing, wider range of notes, better pitch control, and keeping your throat from getting damaged. Some people simply can't sing. Some people are tone deaf. Some people just can't figure out how to sing. If you go to a good vocal coach they will tell you if you can or not. Some might just want your money and give you hope. Problem is it's hard to know. A vocal teacher can do a lot for you. I mean even if you can hit notes and you are in pitch and everything is perfect you could just have a horrible voice. It all depends on the music.

If you think you can sing I would recommend going to a vocal instructor. Short of that you just have to practice and find your voice and style. Sometimes the music you sing can bring out your voice better.

I have heard some decent singers, not famous. And I tell them
they need to "sing with FEELING" sing a song with all your
emotions in it. That will help you come across as sincere too.
Just keep practicing....sometimes it really takes many years to
get just the right sound,,,some people are born with it naturally.
And some need to really keep working on finding their own
voice. Good Luck PS. I saw an old clip of Scott Stapp singing
when he was a teen in a garage band,..he sucked pretty much.
But he kept at it,...look at him now. Sing because you love to...
not for fame or adoration...that automatically comes later.

Try to sing in a high pitch to break out of that flat, once you have mastered that start to play around with different ways of singing. Train your voice to do what you want it to.

these days you don't have to be a brilliant singer.they can preform miracles in the studio .and don't always listen to what people say and don't try to sound like any other singer.cause every body's voice is unique.but if you really want to good voice warm-up exercises does the trick and just keep on singing

practice, practice and more practice. thats all to it! also, how do you define better singing? and what do you sing?
people sing to express themselves. when it is hard to speak about certain subjects, people sing.

so i suggest you practice clarity, so people know what you are singing about. if the message gets thru and you've touched someone. you are the best singer!

how:
tape yourself when you sing. make sure your pitch and emotions are corrected.

projection. know how to reach out.
