american black moors are seldom black and will change to golds and silvers. if you want one to stay black make sure he is black everywhere -- a silver belly or gold hue under the black are a good indicator he will change.

Generally black moors don't change their color but it is possible for them to change with age. I would keep an eye on him just incase. It could be some kind of scale disease. It happened to one of my mollies. Was all black with an orange tail and orange fins. He turned all white over a period of 2 months and then died. I don't know exactly what it was.
