Actually what you're describing is called an "IAC" or Idle Air Control valve. It allows a certain amount of air to bypass the throttle plates in order to maintain a desired idle. It has NOTHING to do with any aspect of timing. Wow.

aic or iac . the iac is a valve designed to give the engine more air on start up or cold start , the car is already designed to work at certain speed at idle on cold start up you will need more air to keep engine running with more fuel which is computer control as temp raises engine rpm drops ..........hope this little info helps

I think you meant IAC its the Intake Air control Valve. just as it says it controls the air intake to the manifold kinda like a choke on an old car. It will keep your car from running smoothly

It is a valve that handles the idle of the car.. it also helps in the proper timing of the car when the recycled exhaust gases are returned to the intake system.

warning: these can be pretty expensive if you are going to replace it. find out what other years it fits and get a used one. depending on where it is located, it can be a fairly easy replacement.
