I was a huge fan, bought all the books by Bill Waterson. Has he dropped off the face of the earth?

Sadly, Bill Watterson is retired from cartooning. But, we wish him well in his retirement, for he brought joy to many of us, and healing to those who were teased and bullied as Calvin was.
As for Calvin and Hobbes themselves, it is as the old nursery rhyme goes: "...and I'll rock you to sleep 'neath the Sugar-Plum Tree, in the garden of Shut-eye Town."

Basically, yes. He retired from drawing and withdrew from the public for the most part.

Bill stays home and paints. He doesn't give interviews and doesn't do cartoons anymore.
