I guess its because if they answered negativly to a question, they wouldn't want a person to be able to hound them for it.

Mainly because of trolls, spammers, and others that they simply don't want to allow contact.
If you are a guy and are on this site looking to chat up some girls, you are in the wrong place.

Well if you had ever had someone on here decide they needed to start emailing you, nonstop, because they think that they're what you need in life. They've received some special divine revelation that they need to straighten you out, etc... You would definitely understand.
