i updated the latest version of AVG, then did a system restore which deleted the update, but now i cannot remove the leftover AVG files on my PC, any suggestions? it says: Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. do i have to make sure that ALL previous files for AVG are removed or will that be automatically done with the next install?

When installing the new one you should not have deleted the old version. Instead when installing the new one select the option for 'repair' and that would have simply updated your current installation of AVG.
If you just want to get rid of it at this point, try uninstalling it from the control panel. If all else fails try rebooting your pc in safe mode (this should be easier if your currently running Windows XP).
