What an interesting question. Yes my soulmate is an alcoholic and it sucks because I cannot be with him because of it. I think he turned out that way because everyone in his family are either alcoholics or binge drinkers. I tried to stay with him but I have kids and I would never make my children grow up the way I did. My heart still aches and theres not one day I don't think of him.

Your soul mate or any individual in a relationship doesn't come into that relationship a perfect person. Each person has their individual issues and is in the process of working towards becoming their true selves by overcoming obstacles and managing stresses. Alcoholism is a way people manage these stresses without confronting the real issues within themselves. Anyone with an debilitating, self-inflicted illness is not ready to be a relationship and can never truly be a soul mate until they become a whole person who can deal with their live adaptively.
There are many reasons people can come and go out your life. Some are meant to be there and others are not. Only time will tell. I suggest you not rush into a "relationship" with this person. It will only end bad. You can be a friend and act as a support to them as they learn how to overcome their illness..meanwhile getting to know them better and building a strong foundation for a future possibility of a relationship where you can grow as soul mates.

Because their sick. And they need help. They have deep issues
they don't want to face and deal with. But, some people can't
stop even if they wanted to, cause it can be hereditary. Instead
of coming up for air and living in the sunlight...they'd rather be
slushing in the mud and slime.
