Unknown.
There is disagreement among anthropologists on when language was first used by humans (or their ancestors). Estimates range from about two million (2,000,000) years ago, during the time of Homo habilis, to as recently as forty thousand (40,000) years ago, during the time of Cro-Magnon man.

By "man-made" you mean languages developed naturally over time. Yes, I believe they did. God installed an instinct in man to naturally develop languages. They developed gradually over time, and they're still developing today. Except Arabic. When comparing Arabic to English, Spanish, Tamil, Chinese and Japanese, it becomes glaringly obvious that Arabic is in a state of maturity. In other words, it's not changing as other languages are. It's difficult to explain why, but there's a clue in the fact that Arabic/Semitic terms have been found in just about all languages, thereby giving an indication towards Arabic's relative great age as compared to other languages and the impact Arabic has had in transmitting vocabulary to other languages. How that plays into the story of Adam, I don't know, but there is an indication in Ayah 32:8-9 and 76:1 that mankind has been through a stage of gradual development which is likely to include language development.

Animals were around a long time before people
they dont or read ,but they do have languages

as far as people are concerned
they comunicated when the first got here ,,when they started trading ,and having religions ,or education ,then they needed a written language .

Thoth wrote on Emerald tablets 36.000 years ago ,in a very sophisticated way ,

so written language must be far older than that .

theoldest known languages ,do not come anywhere near that

they found a sandal print in lava that was dated at 2 million years ,
this says a lot
sandals means civilization ,and civilization means trade ,and trade means language
so we can say that language must have been here 2 million years ago

If you're a creationist, just don't even read this.

Language developed as a result of a fortunate mutation that gave us the ability to form an unusually large variety of sounds. That, along with sufficient brain capacity, allowed us to develop language.

The Tower of Babel explanation fails on two counts, first because it admits that language already existed and merely attempts to explain the variety of languages. The second is that the tower actually exists and was a ziggurat--a form of stepped pyramid built as a temple to the gods. A large ziggurat was started in Babylon by a Sumerian king, but its construction was interrupted for centuries by the disorder created by military campaigns in the area. It was finished in the 6th century B.C. by Nebuchadnezzar. The name of the city, in Babylonian, is "Bab-ilu" meaning "gate of God".

theres a controversy over that but its thought the natives in South/Central America (Mayans or Aztecs) Sumerians and Indians created written language at about the same time.. each civilization lived on it own in a different spot in the world so you can say everyone created their own first.. egyptians created their hieroglyphs without knowing that in S/C America the same was created at the same time and Sumerians were creating their own wedge-shaped letters, Greeks on the other hand were creating letter that look similar to letters nowadayz a bit different tho here and there but the spoken language was created by God wen he sent Adam and Eve to earth otherwise how cud they talk.. but its a well known fact that God also created pen as the first thing

God created the different languages after man created the Tower of Babel. He did this to confound man because they were trying to replace his authority and build a tower to heaven.

Now Ill just sit back and wait on the atheist to start calling me names.
