My husband and I are looking into buying a new bed.

He's about 6'1" and I'm 5'9". He sleeps on his stomach or side, I sleep on my side. We both typically sleep with our arms up (his around his pillow, mine usually over my face), so I don't know how much width to allow. I'm normally pretty comfortable in narrow spaces (like sleeping on couches) but I think he needs more elbow room because of his pillow hugging.

At 73 inches, he should be just about short enough for our full sized bed (75 inches, according to what I've seen) but he always ends up with his feet hanging off the foot of the bed. That can't be healthy, can it?

I think that we should probably get a king sized bed. Which is the "normal" king size, Cal or eastern? Which is easier to get sheets and stuff for?

When king size is mentioned, usually it's Eastern King.
Cal. King is only common in California. If you're not in California, it is going to be hard finding Cal. King mattress and bed sheets.
Here are the sizes:
Eastern King76 x 80L
California King72 x 84L

I was reading an article today that said you should buy the biggest bed that fits in your bedroom. My problem with this is... the bigger the bed the bigger the price tag. If your husband is over 6foot then you should get a Cal king, because they are longer. I think the Eastern King is the "normal" king, its wider than the Cal king and shorter.
If your really worried about his feet hanging off the bed, Sleep Number makes a "Giant king". The price tag on it was through the roof, and then you have to buy their special sheets!
hope any of this helps.
