i have to write an essay on conformity nowadays... and i need a reliable source that proves people wear certain clothes just to fit in even if they don't like the style.. and how people may be harassed if they don't wear certain brand names

An example of people wearing certain clothes becuase they want to fit in, could possibly be taken from these makeover shows that are so prevalent nowadays. Even though it's clear the person is not happy with the clothes, they are forced to wear them becuase the makeover show tells them that is what they have to wear to be attractive and fit in. They are told that if they wear the clothes they have worn for years and are comfortable in, they will be unhappy and never achieve what they want.
Sounds like an interesting assignment, I wish my essay questions were more like yours!

There was something like that in the 80's in Belgium, a large group of teens in Antwerp wore some sort of jackets, with feathers in it, I hope you know what I mean, but I've forgotten the brand...
Anyway, those who didn't wear that kind of jacket were totally out.
And I think that they were maybe a aggressive against the others (who hadn't such a jacket).
There was a lot to do about it then, some teens spend more than 10.000 old Belgian francs (and at that time, it was much; now 1€=40,3399 fr) on some jacket and other clothes of famous brands.
