I remember that movie, specifically because my young daughter was so frightened by the storyline.
In fact, we walked out about 20 minutes after the movie started.

I believe its 'The Witches' great movie. Was the kid raised by his grandmother? If so then yeah it the witches. The book was even better. Its by Ronald Dahl, same guy who wrote 'Matilda' and 'James and the Giant Peach'
