sometimes we are afraid to be honest with others because it might hurt their feelings. I try to be as tactful and honest as I can always.

Fear, lack of intrest, or they don't know how...or don't want to but that is what I mean by lack of intrest. People also don't say what they mean because they think that no one will understand...which isn't true most times but can be. You just have to find the right people to talk to.

May be you don't let them doing so. What people think is in their mind, speaking out mind for one is not that easier ma'am. "Looking good", "acting good" and "speaking good" are everthting people doing these days. Being practical - I can speak my mind up.
Answer to your question is that only - let the people around you think 'practical', act 'normal' and look 'normal'.
