Maybe you should SWITCH TO a CABLE----HIGH-SPEED INTERNET, instead of usin' WIRELESS INTERNET.

1. TIME-WARNER's ROAD RUNNER----------TAMPA, FL & other places
2. COX COMMMUNICATIONS-------------------GAINESVILLE/OCALA FL & other places

3. + OTHER COMPANIES

CONNECTION IS ALWAYS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

24/7---- Unless there is a GLITCH in the SYSTEM

COX has PHONE TECHS available 24/7 for these GITCHES, they SOLVE your PROBLEM everytime!!!!!!!

First off Vista slows you down extreme amounts do the size of it.

Few things can causing it to be slow:

1) Virus, Spyware, and adaware. If you are sure your computer is clean, than move on to the next. If not, scan your machine.

2) Your ISP may be experiencing a problem. It could be something on their side as far as what DSLAM you are on, or even the port. The best way to determine this is to direct connect to the dsl modem and run some speedtests.

3) The PC..again VISTA uses alot of resources so, this may be the issue.

Good luck!!

First question is your desktop running on the wireless connection or do you have an ethernet cable plugged into it? If you have the desktop connected with a ethernet cable then you are probably connecting at 100 Mbs rather than the maximum of 54Mbs with a wireless connection. (note these are maximum speeds and you may not be getting them anyways).
Second if both are connecting via a wireless connection then go to the single computer display on bottom right hand side of your screen and right click. Then go to: view available wireless networks. A screen will pop up with the wireless connections. On the left side of the window you should see Change advanced settings and click on it. a new window will pop up look and see the CONNECT USING are where your wireless device is located, then click on CONFIGURE click on ADVANCED Tab, then scroll down the list to IBSS 54G Mode and then look at the right side VALUE and make sure you have it set to 54G-Auto or 54G Performance(if you are connecting only to a Wireless G router with 54Mbs). Hope this helps

Well look in your wireless network which is in control panel or sometimes a shortcut on desktop and when running is always on the task bar and find out how good a connection you are receiving? You may have to disconnect and start a new connection if that on is running low.hit profile and refresh to see if
you have any other connections that are running faster. My notebooks both run at 54 Mbps"mega bytes per second and is extremely fast even faster than my desktop which isnt wireless but on the same source. Also Its according to your processor speed. If you have problems email me and ill try to work you through it.email address fbshines@yahoo.ca.com.hope this helps

I have the same problem with my laptop. It doesn't run vista but it is a Dell (almost a year old). I have Clear Wire & I chose them because they advertised lightening speeds....
My computer is clean, but Clear Wire is NOT lightening fast & they do not return emails when you request assistance. Once my year with them is up I will NOT be signing them on for anymore. Almost everytime I shut off my laptop & then go to use it again, the network connection is off, so I have to shut it down, unplug the modem & the router, wait then plug them back in & start up the computer again. I have not lost the connection while I have had it on though......Yet!
I have heard that vista does drag your speeds down though....
